RFID cards and who may charge

Three ways to authorise

Each socket or cable on a Veton charger has a release mode. It decides who may start a session. This guide replaces the old RFID quick-start sheet.

• Always: plug and charge. Anyone who plugs in can charge. This is the default for a home charger.
• By OCPP backend: the charge-point operator authorises each session. Cards are registered with the operator, not on the charger.
• RFID whitelist: only the RFID cards on the list stored on the charger may start a session. No cloud connection is needed.

Switching the release mode is an installer action. Adding and removing RFID cards can be done by the installer, and by the household in the app and on the portal.

On the charger's local page

Open http://ev3000.local:8080 on the same network, log in with the installer account, and open Settings, then the "RFID whitelist" card. The card first shows the release mode of every charging point.

Turn the whitelist on

1. Click Enable RFID whitelist mode and confirm. Every charging point switches to release by card.
2. To go back to plug and charge later, click Disable (plug & charge).

Add a card by tapping it

1. Hold the card to the reader on the charger. It appears under Recently scanned within a few seconds, with the reader it was seen on.
2. Click Import next to it. The card is added with its number as the label and an expiry five years ahead, the same default as adding by hand.
3. To give it a name or a different expiry, delete it and add it again by hand, as below, or rename it in the app.

Add a card by hand

1. Under Add card, type the card's number (UID, in hexadecimal).
2. Type a label, such as the name of the driver or the car.
3. Set an expiry date, or keep the default of five years from today.
4. Click Add card.

Disable or remove a card

• Click Disable next to a card to keep it on the list but stop it charging, for example while a driver is away. Enable turns it back on.
• Click Delete to remove it for good.

In the Veton app

The app can do the same on site or remotely, for the installer and for the household.

1. Open the charger, go to Settings, open Installer Settings and tap RFID cards. If no charging point is set to RFID whitelist yet, the app says "Release mode required" and takes you to the release-mode setting first.
2. On the Allowed cards screen, tap Add card. The app arms the reader: hold the card to the charger and its number fills in on its own. A card that is not to hand can be typed with Enter UID manually.
3. Type a label and tap Save.
4. Rename a card with the pencil, or take it off the list with the bin; the app calls that Remove.

For a whole household on the portal

On v2.vetoncontrol.com, a household member opens the household and then RFID cards. The page shows recently seen cards, lets you add a card with a label and an expiry, and remove one. The list is pushed to every charger of the household, so a card works on all of them.

Good to know

• A session started with a card shows the card in the Sessions list of the local page and the app, so you can see who charged.
• The list lives on the charger. A charger without internet still checks cards; the portal only needs internet to push changes.
• An expired card stays on the list but no longer charges. Delete it and add it again with a new expiry.
